A roof installation is a big project, and we at Skyview Roofing want to make sure you’re fully prepared for the process. Whether you’re upgrading your roof to something more durable or replacing a damaged one through an insurance claim, we understand how important it is to manage expectations and ensure everything goes smoothly. Here’s what you can expect from the roofing installation process, including the steps we take to protect your home, keep the site clean, and minimize disruptions.
1. Initial Consultation and Materials Delivery
Before we begin your roofing project, we’ll first discuss the materials you’ve chosen for your roof. Once we have everything in place, your roofing materials will be delivered to your property.
- Materials will be delivered on pallets, typically the day before your install, for easy access by our team.
- Please keep the driveway clear of vehicles, allowing for easy unloading and movement of materials.
2. Preparation and Protection of Your Property
At Skyview Roofing, we take extra care to protect your property during the installation:
- Debris Removal: We do our best to ensure all debris from the old roof is safely removed, including nails, shingles, and other materials. Magnets are used to thoroughly clean out garden beds, landscape, and around home. We ask that your driveway be assessed thoroughly and regularly for at least 2 weeks after, and especially after a heavy rain, to ensure no missed nails end up jeopardizing the risk of going into your tires!
- Protecting Your Plants & Landscaping: We’ll use tarps and other protective measures to ensure your garden, plants, and landscaping are not damaged. Any special requests or particular areas of concern around your property must be reviewed with your representative before installation and noted on your Work Order so we may be effective and properly protect your home. Afterall, this is a group effort!
- Grass Cutting: It’s essential for the best clean-up. We kindly ask that you cut the grass a day or two before we arrive. This helps us to quickly and efficiently remove any debris that may fall from the roof.
3. Noise and Disruptions: Manage Expectations
Roofing installations, especially on larger homes or with certain materials, can be noisy and disruptive. We will do our best to complete the job as efficiently as possible, but it’s important to prepare on your end! The use of heavy equipment, nailing and hammering, and our roofing team walking on your roof can create significant noise. Our crew(s) do arrive early in the morning and will work through completion of the job or until the evening.
Please make arrangements to ensure you, your family, and/or your pets are comfortable! You may want to consider leaving the house for the day or staying in a quieter part of your home, especially if you are working from home.
Roof Installation Timeline
The time required to complete your roof depends on the type of materials you’ve selected and the size of your home. Our crews do arrive early, typically between 6 – 8 AM to work with daylight hours, have cooler temperatures to work in during the hotter months, and to maximize efficiency as this process is very labor intensive.
- Asphalt Shingle Roofs: Typically, most shingle roofs can be completed in one or two days, assuming moderate roof complexity.
- Standing Seam Metal Roofs: Metal roofs, such as Standing Seam, require more labor and time. These can take 3 to 5 days minimum to complete, depending on your roof’s size and structure.
5. Clean-Up and Final Inspection
After the installation is complete, clean-up is one of the most important steps. At Skyview Roofing, we don’t just leave your home—we leave it looking better than we found it!
- We make sure to do our best to clear all roofing debris from the property, including nails and old materials. Please note some miscellaneous debris may be found in the weeks after your install, as there is a lot being removed from your roof.
- Our team will conduct a final inspection to ensure everything is up to our high standards.
6. Final Walkthrough and Customer Satisfaction
Once the roof is complete and clean-up is done, we’ll walk through your property with you to ensure everything meets your expectations. We’ll explain the work we’ve done, and you can ask us any questions you may have.
If you’ve chosen a FORTIFIED Roof™, we’ll also submit documentation for you to obtain the necessary certification and to verify that it meets the standards required, which will then be submitted to your insurance company and/or grant program for proof.
If you have an active insurance claim that we worked with you on completing, we will then create, fill out, and file the necessary documentation for you to receive your recoverable depreciation.
At this point in the process, we ask that payment be ready. Acceptable payments are check, cash, or card (which does have an additional, third-party 3% processing fee). This payment amount will be found on your Work Order and may be first or final amount, depending on prearranged agreements.
